چکیده

We present three mechanisms of attention shift for autonomous agents within the framework of the SALT model of memory [5]: activationbased attention shift, attention shift by event-driven emotion and attention shift by anticipation-driven emotion. The three mechanisms rely on automatically computed properties of memory (as opposed to deliberative processes). Activation-based attention shift is based on the activation of cognitive structures stored in long term memory. The other two are two-step emotionbased mechanisms of attention shift: first emotion interrupts the agent's current cognitive process (as in activation-based attention shift), then the processing of the emotion directs the agent's attention to the external environment. In attention shift by event-driven emotion, the ongoing cognitive process may be interrupted when an external event causes the agent to experience an emotion. In the attention shift by anticipation-driven emotion, the ongoing cognitive process may be interrupted when the agent anticipates affective states attributed to the external environment.

An architecture for autonomous agency

We present a general architecture for autonomous artificial agents that allows them to cope with the occurrence of internal and external stimuli simultaneously to their ongoing cognitive activities. This new architecture develops general proposals by Simon [1967] and Sloman [1987; 1995] particularized to the model described in [Botelho and Coelho 1995]. We relate the dispute between the primacy...

Interactive Agents with Artificial Mind

This paper discusses an artificial mind model and its applications. The mind model is based on some theories which assert that emotion is an important function in human decision making. An artificial mind model with emotion is built, and the model is applied to action selection of autonomous agents. In three examples, the agents interact with humans and their environments. The examples show the...

A Generic Framework for the Analysis of Emotion Mechanisms in Autonomous Agents

Emotion mechanisms are often used to perform roles in artificial agents with the aim of improving task performance. A basis for making comparisons between these agents is proposed, in the form of a framework constructed from an analysis of architectural qualities (the agent architecture, the action selection mechanism, and the emotion mechanism along with the emotion model it was based on). Thi...

A Shift into Autonomous Education

Fostering autonomous learning has become one of the key concerns of course designers and curriculum planners in the last 20 years which has been validated on both ideological and psychological grounds. However, estimating learners’ readiness to accept autonomous education is an important step prior to moving toward autonomous education. Thus, the current research investigated the patterns of au...

A Context-aware Architecture for Mental Model Sharing through Semantic Movement in Intelligent Agents

Recent studies in multi-agent systems are paying increasingly more attention to the paradigm of designing intelligent agents with human inspired concepts. One of the main cognitive concepts driving the core of many recent approaches in multi agent systems is shared mental models. In this paper, we propose an architecture for sharing mental models based on a new concept called semantic movement....
